Juicy veg...
October
2008
London, England

This
is a conceptual layout I designed for a
new supermarket magazine. I was asked to create key
layouts
to show the different sections of a magazine from product and recipe
pages to feature layouts. The idea was to
use bright juicy photography and bold type, while still using
white space to achieve a clean modern uncluttered feel. I also put
together
a range of devices for the different sections to help
the consumer
gather the valuable
information they needed at a glance.

Toyota Aygo Magazine
Publicis Blueprint – 2006
London, England
(Quarterly)

Toyota
Aygo magazine is a double-sided, flip-around, Lifestyle/Car
Brochure publication. It is a Pan-European magazine that is translated
into 9 different languages. I was called in to design the lifestyle
section
alongside the Art Director. The design created would then serve as a
template for the various translators to work on. In
addition to the layout of the magazine, I was asked to design a
series of 6 (AO) posters of the Toyota Aygo car, for Toyota's
internal marketing campaigns.

DIY enthusiasts. From redesigning your children’s bedroom to tiling

professionals within the industry. As part of the design team, my
responsibilities included creating
multiple features and several advertorials for the products promoted
within the publication.

Men's
Fitness Magazine
Dennis
Publishing – 2008-2010
London, England
(Monthly)

At
Men's Fitness magazine I have enjoyed working on a variety of
layouts, whether it be complex, heavily gridded exercise pages
to
features that allow me to express my creativeness as a designer, all
of course within the style parameters of the magazine.
In
addition to designing, I have
created numberous graphs and illustrations to accompany factual points
on various 'fit list' pages. I was also given the opportunity to work
on their 186 page 'Ultimate Workout Plan' bookazine from creating the
templates and style sheets to designing the pages.

MacUser
Magazine
Dennis
Publishing – 2007-2010
London, England
(Bi-monthly)

I
regularly work on MacUser,
where my main role is to layout the front end of the magazine
such
as
the news and reviews pages. On occasion I get to design a feature as
shown in these layouts. In the above spreads, I was asked to create an
illustration that would hold together the feature as the article itself
was of a boxed out nature.

In
these second set of spreads, I again took an illustrative
direction by using pictographic icons and bold colours
to break up heavy copy. The result is a visually enticing
layout that allows the reader to follow the article in a clear
and precise manner.

Debenhams Desire
Velo Agency - 2008
London, England
Print
run: 175,000
(Quarterly)

I
was called in to take the lead as freelance Art Editor on relaunching Debenhams Desire
magazine back into the market in time for Christmas. I was
responsible for developing the templates through to
the designing of all the pages. I was required to liaise with
previously existing photographers and image libraries and finding new
and exciting contacts as well. Part of my role also included
cataloguing products and
sending them off to be photographed. I liaised with prepress
upon
finalising pages and sending them off to print all successfully
completed within a very tight deadline.

Health
& Fitness Magazine
Future Publishing – 2007/2008
London, England
(Monthly)

I
have worked on all sections of Health&Fitness
magazine. From the designing of features through to product review and
exercise pages. In addition to the magazine I have also worked on a
variety of supplements and giveaways. One particular giveaway was a
monthly wall calendar which I designed from concept through to print as
well as picture research, while still keeping it all in style with the
existing magazine.

Life
Pharmacy Magazine
Fairfax Magazines – 2004
Auckland, New Zealand
Print run:
80,000
(Quarterly)

Based
upon my initial concepts, the pitch was won for us to design a
quarterly, health/lifestyle magazine for Life Pharmacy. It covered a
wide range of content from profiling fashion designers through to newly
released beauty products and medical advice on fighting colds and flu
(etc). I was
given the opportunity to art direct this publication from concept
through to finished design, picture research, art work and generate
working templates of the design. I was also given the responsibility to
press pass this publication on site at the printers for 3 days.

Hospitality Magazine
Reed Business Informations – 2007
London, England
(Quarterly)

I
was given the opportunity to redesign and restructure this magazine.
It involved directly liaising with the client regarding articles and
images supplied. I undertook all the amendments both editorial and
design as
well as preparing the magazine for final print. I received positive
feedback from the client and
their readers, who regarded the issue I designed as ‘the best one yet’.
